Roads paved with Gold - Wed Aug 4th

Horrendous traffic hold up on one of the main arterial motorways to the East caused us to be late for work on this day.

En route, we passed one of the big ole piles of waste from the Gold Mining days - I've heard that with the improved technology available since the mines closed, some waste dumps are now being recycled for Gold that's still in them!

Another use is for use as aggregate in road construction. 
 
Maybe the roads really are paved with Gold!

And wouldn't you rather see motorway verges decorated cheerfully like this?

What would local Councils say in the UK - decoration or distraction?
