Nick Carter {bottom row left} is the head of the Contemporary Music Dept., and (as usual) staff are always so self-effacing, modest, and keen to share their experiences/expertise/hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble.
This is a South African version of an 'Eton model' - it was originally steeped in 'old money', and now it's evolved to become steeped in 'new money' . . . there are still young people here from extremely 'privileged' backgrounds, but there are also opportunities for scholarships and entries for the under-privileged.
It is [perhaps for me?] confusing, however I can say that all the young people I have met here have been extremely polite, well mannered, and eminently capable . . . and it does seem really genuine.
It's a very diverse and interesting world we live in, and I am reluctantly forced to disagree with Billy Connolly - travel does broaden the mind (at least it broadens mine!)
